What is asthma?

Asthma

It is a health condition where the airways narrow and swell and may go on to produce additional mucus. This can lead to making the breathing functionality of the body pretty difficult, resulting in coughing, whistling during breathing, and also shortness of breath. There are few people who have minor asthma, but then there are also some who may have a major asthmatic condition that not only interferes with the daily routine but can also lead to a life-threatening asthma attack.

Although asthma cannot be healed, its symptoms can always be controlled. As this illness changes with time, it is imperative that one keeps in regular touch with the doctor to track signs and also adjust the treatment if need be. The asthma symptoms may vary from one person to another. Shortness of breath, tightening in the chest or pain, sleeping troubles due to breath shortness must be looked into pretty seriously. Asthma symptoms get flared up in certain situations, such as exercise, occupational scenarios ranging from chemical fumes to gases or dust, and allergy induced because of pollen, etc.

Asthma is generally signified in four categories. The first being mild intermittent, where the symptoms, as the name suggests, are mild and occur up to two days a week or up to two nights a month. Then there is the mild persistent category where symptoms occur more than twice a week or more than once a day. The third is moderate persistent, wherein the symptoms are prevalent once a day and more than once a week, and finally, there is severe persistent asthma, when the symptoms occur across the day on most days and frequently at night.
